2008 Inventor of the Year Award - Call for Nominations!

The Rochester Intellectual Property Law Association announces a call for nominations to receive the 2008 Distinguished Inventor of the Year Award.  A formal award ceremony and reception will be held in the Spring of 2008 to honor the award recipient(s).  A single inventor, or team of joint inventors, may be nominated by any RIPLA member to receive the Award.  To receive consideration for the 2008 Award, nominations should be received by close of business, January 31, 2008.

Nominations will be judged by a selection committee according to the following criteria:

  • The creativity and innovation demonstrated by the nominee;
  • The nominee's past or present affiliation with the Rochester/Western New York region;
  • The nominee's contribution to, and influence on, science and industry;
  • The impact of the nominee's invention on the community, region, and our society; and
  • The diligence shown by the nominee.

Each nomination should include descriptive information and other material sufficient to advocate the election of the nominee to this honor.  In order to facilitate the evaluation process, nominators are asked to provide the following information and consider the associated questions as a minimum requirement for their nomination:

  • Describe the nominee's invention(s). How is the invention significant? What problems are overcome by application of the invention?
  • State how and why the nominee stands out among his/her colleagues and other innovators.
  • Identify the nominee's patents (include copies, if possible) and describe their significance.
  • Describe the nominee's diligence (e.g., effort, persistence, and obstacles overcome).
  • Identify the realization or application of the nominee's work in academics, commerce, industry, or government.
  • Identify any products that incorporate the nominee's innovations.
  • Identify any other special recognition and/or awards the nominee has received.

Past nominations are eligible for re-nomination.  Any materials that were previously submitted prior to the year of current nomination should be listed.  Nominations should include the nominator's name, as well as the names of any suggested references, with addresses and phone numbers, to be contacted for further information on the nominee.
